About The Owners: Garry and Yvette

Their goal is to provide a cottage-like setting with modern amenities giving visitors a place to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the property while savouring some delicious food that won't leave you hungry in a warm friendly and inviting atmosphere.

Originally from Bradford, ON the couple decided after 10 years of talking about their dream of owning a resort-type property to actually making it a reality. Their search brought them to Marten River, an area with some of the most beautiful views of nature.

Yvette has a diploma in Outdoor Recreation and worked in Temagami as a canoe tripping instructor during her college days. After a variety of other occupations over the years, Yvette desired to return to a lifestyle that included her love of sharing the numerous outdoor experiences available in our province with others.

Garry LOVES to fish! He has many years of experience with customer service and most recently drove a truck in the GTA. Wanting to get out of the rat race of the big city he was onboard wholeheartedly with making the move to Northeastern ON.

Garry does the majority of the cooking but when not in the kitchen you'll find him socializing and cracking jokes with the guests.

Moving towards their goals, updates and renovations are well underway at Marten River Escapes. With their newest undertaking - a 14 unit water front accommodation building with breath taking views to be completed in spring of 2024.  Please bear with us as we make improvements and upgrades. The place was a bit of a fixer-upper when purchased but as Garry says "it'll be in better shape when we retire in 15-20 years than when we took ownership :-) "

Who We Are?

Originally run in the 1940's as the "Rock Pine Camp", a Mr. Bug took over ownership in the 1960's building the well known "Rock Pine Motel & Restaurant".  After several decades and various owners, the property has recently received a major make over with the addition of hydro and water serviced campsites, a rustic glamping cabin plus numerous modern amenities within the new 14 Unit Vacation Rental Unit Building (expected completion Spring 2024).   The Property is now known as Marten River Escapes. The on-site restaurant retains the traditional Rock Pine name.

Despite the many owners and several changes over the years, the property is recognizable by several generations as home to the landmark BIG FISH, an icon of the area and a photo opportunity for many.

The property is located along the Trans Canada Hwy 11 North, halfway between the city of North Bay and the town of Temagami on the west side of the highway with 1000' of shoreline on Frenchman's Bay.

The semi-private bay is part of the Marten River water system with access to over 200 km of shoreline from our docks. The property is also surrounded by crown land offering hundreds of kilometers of old logging trails and forests to explore making us an ideal Northern Adventure.

Marten River Escapes operates year round catering to snowmobilers in the winter and atv'ers, boaters, anglers, hunters, campers and vacationers in the spring, summer and fall.
